Tuesday 5/15

I'm hoping we get enough wind tomorrow afternoon to get out. Maybe SSYC or Sheboygan.

I'll be out if forecast holds.

Thinking Atwater or SSYC...depends on how strong and how North things pan out. Only 3 boats at SSYC in the moorings on Saturday, so still plenty of space to ride around.

With the weather forecast we have today, I look at the McKinley forecast and subtract a bit for SSYC. I look at the Sheboygan forecast and add a bit. I have never ridden Atwater and don't know how to second guess the forecasters. Atwater, if it is good, would be fun to try.

At 1:15 the wind at the North Gap seemed to be holding right around 20mph. So my "A little less than" NorthGap rule would say it's about 15 at SSYC. Decent, but not outstanding.

At 1:00 the Sheboygan Lighthouse was reading 20 knots (22 mph) from the NNE. That's just an OK direction for Sheboygan, and probably what you get once you are away from the shoreline effect. Still decent, but not outstanding. I've sometimes been slightly disappointed with a NNE at Sheboygan. Sheboygan always delivers if the prevailing wind is from the south-ish and it's sunny. You'll get a big thermal kicker that swings the direction from SW to SE and bumps up the wind strength. When it's from the NNE, sometimes the wind is a little "messy"--some ups and downs, tougher launching and landing, spots with much less wind, etc.

Atwater looks interesting. NNE could be pretty good there. I assume you carry your gear down the winding path, and launch at the beach. Right?

Yeah Don that's right for Atwater, actually you just walk down the stairs. Only have been there twice. Down side is you gotta get your kite size right without being down by the water.

I'm torn between SSYC and Atwater. Atwater should have nice waves but also lots of surfers hang out there too.

I'll be out around 4pm.

The wind is up a bit at the North Gap. I won't be able to leave the house until about 3:30, so would be at Atwater by about 4:15. Meet you there?

Just had a thought. I'll be Atwater is going to be mobbed with beach people. SSYC would be a better choice today. See you at SSYC.

Not many people at Atwater but also not much wind switching to hydrofoil and 10 meter

How was SSYC Don?
Atwater was not very powerful but just right for a 10 meter and hydrofoil. I was really hoping for a wave session but will have to wait. Talk to a local that sails in that area and says that area is always less than what the McKinley readings are. Good to know for future reference.
