Boxhorn Launch Users Please Read

Sam and I have put together a list of some simple things to keep in mind while using the Boxhorn Launch. More or less, common sense but we feel addressing some of these potential issues now will hopefully keep saftey incidents to a minimum while theoretically keeping our launch access to a maximum. These aren't directed toward anyone specifically but to our kiting community as a whole. Thanks.
1.Boaters have priority on the ramp and in parking lot- They pay, and have been using the launch much longer than us. They are also the only reason the public launch exists.
2.New kiters are urged to launch in water, or over the water- Things can go bad fast, the last thing we need is someone getting dragged across the parking lot or into the shooting range. It’s one thing hurting yourself, but if other people get injured our launch site may be jeopardized.
3.Don’t launch someone if you are unsure of their ability to safely fly a kite- Don’t worry about feeling rude this is for everyone’s safety.
4.Know self rescue & water landings- Conditions often change and you can’t rely on others to help.
5.Keep clear of lessons
6.Never leave board on ramp. This is something we’d really like to stress. If you see a board in the launch, toss it to the side to clear it for boaters.
7.Don’t leave lines out, if you do and someone drives over them, it’s your fault. If you come in for a break, wrap them up and put them aside. It will keep you organized and avoid tangles with other lines.
8.Try to keep only one kite pumped up at a time- There is very little real estate at Boxhorn, we have to share it with everyone.
9.Avoid riding in front of launch area/main boat channel as much as possible
10.Get yourself back upwind before it’s too late and you have to bum a ride
11.As always, follow basic safety precautions and good kiting etiquette. If you are ever unsure of something, don’t hesitate to ask a more experienced rider. They will be happy to help.
Simply keep in mind the luxury of this launch we have. It provides us many more days of riding that we would have to drive
much farther to enjoy. For the most part this should be a common sense reminder, but also a guide to safely utilize the Boxhorn launch. If anyone has suggestions or edits for this we’d like to eventually make this a sticky topic for all to see.
