Monday 8/3 SSYC

The forecast is looking like a burly Russian from an 80s Rocky film (STRONNGGG!) tomorrow at South Shore Yacht Club. I am going to arrive in the afternoon, likely around 1:30-2pm. I hope to see some kite lads there!

Hate to be a downer, but given Milwaukee flooding tonight risk of dumping into Michigan tonight. Had my eye on SSYC, but now thinking I am better off at home even if not optimal. Watch for beach warnings...

If the wind were NE, from SSYC to Grant park. North won't work.

Need enough east in wind direction to get in at Grant Park for a downwinder to there.

So is SSYC the place to be today? Still kind of NNW and a little light. Forecast looks good for afternoon. 1:00 ish?

Yeah, it looks lighter than anticipated but I am going to check it out this afternoon (not sure whether I'll go for 2pm or wait for the chance of stronger wind around 4pm).

I think Stafford's suggestion for a downwinder would be from McKinley to South Shore as we did that a couple of months back. I think I am going to head to SSYC first though and see how it's looking.

If anyone heads down sooner please post up conditions! I will do the same!

true north won't work well for a downwinder even across McKinely to SSYC just because the launch will be sketch. When BBR and I did it earlier this summer it was NNE.

If it doesn't pick up or switch to at least true north, I'm skipping today. If it does go at least north I'll go to SSYC this afternoon.

Pretty much due north at SSYC right now. It's blowing about 12 to 14, and pretty steady. Newbie Nate is going to try his first time on a board with a 13m kite. I'm going 17m until I get blown off the water.

The promised wind did not really materialize in Muskego area, but enough to play on wing foil for a while, noticed it was a little more brisk out of the warm water...

SSYC delivered in the evening- picked up to low to mid 20’s and shifted a little more cross-onshore. Myself and Kiran hit 3rd time lucky kite size at 11m, after having chased the wind with 15m and 13.5m. After BBR packed away his customary 17m. Stafford was ripping on a 10m. Later Matt joined us on a 12m.
Kiran’s 1st time at SSYC resulted in him tangling line with a sailing boat and a lucky escape.

Steve, did the sailboat have any masthead equipment on it? Weather vane, radio antenna, anemometer? If so, was it damaged?

No Don, he was very lucky and snagged one line on a low rail and was able to unsnap easily by hand - no damage to boat or lines
