Back in the day when I was seriously windsurf racing, top competitors all knew careful maintenance of our big carbon race fins was crucial to performance. I would regularly wet-sand to 1500 grit, and made sure any dings were tended to. Got to thinking about that with my foils, and yep - it makes a difference. Noticed average peak speeds up 1-2 mph. So I went looking online, just to be sure I was not damaging equipment, and it did not take long to find videos suggesting not only wet-sanding to improve performance, but also suggesting to dull sharp training edges to reduce potential injury to equipment or yourself.
